General Information of Oxiconazole (Oxistat)

Oxiconazole is a general-purpose antifungal product. It works by interfering with the cell membrane of the fungus. Oxiconazole penetrates the skin after application, but little is absorbed into the bloodstream.

Cautions and Warnings

Do not use Oxiconazole if you are allergic to it or to any other ingredient in Oxistat Cream.

Large doses of Oxiconazole have caused reduced fertility in laboratory animals. This should be taken into account when considering the use of this product, although there is no evidence that Oxiconazole reduces fertility in women.

Possible Side Effects

Oxiconazole side effects are infrequent.

  • Common: itching and burning.
  • Rare: stinging, irritation, rash, scaling, tingling, pain, eczema, redness and swelling, and cracked skin.

Usual Dose

Oxiconazole should be applied to affected areas every evening for 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the fungus type.

Overdosage

People who accidentally swallow this medicine should be taken to a hospital emergency room for evaluation and treatment. ALWAYS bring the medicine container.

Special Information

Oxiconazole is meant only for application to the skin. Do not put this product into your eyes or mouth.

Stop using the product and call your doctor if skin irritation or redness develops.

If you forget to apply a dose of Oxiconazole, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.

Special Populations of Oxiconazole (Oxistat)

Pregnancy/Breast-feeding
Oxiconazole is not likely to affect your pregnancy because little is absorbed into the bloodstream. Nevertheless, you should not use this drug without your doctor’s knowledge and approval.
Significant amounts of Oxiconazole may pass into breast milk. Nursing mothers who use it should watch their infants for possible drug-related side effects.

Seniors
Seniors may use Oxiconazole without special restriction.
